OVERVIEW
▼
Escape the crowds on this private Tetebatu Walking Tour in Lombok. Total duration: 8-10 hours in total, including hotel pickup, driving, walking, and drop-off from Kuta, Senggigi, Mataram & Selong Belanak area.
Within that time, you’ll spend about ~5-6 hours walking at a relaxed pace through emerald rice fields with stunning views of Mount Rinjani, wander traditional Sasak villages, and enjoy an authentic Sasak lunch at a local warung.
You’ll also trek to a hidden waterfall and meet the rare black langur monkeys in the sacred Monkey Forest of Rinjani National Park.
ABOUT TETEBATU
▼
Tetebatu is a Sasak village with a traditional way of life located on the southern slopes of Mount Rinjani in East Lombok. Far from the busy tourist areas of Senggigi and Kuta, Tetebatu is known as the "green paradise" of Lombok.
The village sits at 700-800 meters above sea level, which means the air is cool and fresh all year round. This highland climate makes Tetebatu perfect for emerald rice terraces, organic farms, clove & coffee plantations, and tropical rainforest in the buffer zone of Mount Rinjani National Park.
The main attractions of Tetebatu are the stunning green rice fields, the warm and friendly local people, and the amazing views of Mount Rinjani. Life here is still very traditional. You will see local farmers working in the fields, and women making traditional Sasak coffee and homemade coconut oil using methods passed down for generations. Visitors are welcome to interact with the villagers and see their daily life up close.
Another highlight is a small waterfall and a forest considered sacred by locals where you can see the endemic black langur monkeys called "lutung" in their natural habitat. We’ll also pass through Sasak communities, rice fields, and organic farms during the walk.
Choosing a Tetebatu Walking Tour means you get to experience the real Lombok — slow living, authentic culture, and nature without the crowds.

What an amazing day. We were collected from our hotel by our driver Kiki who drove us expertly to the village where we met the wonderful Jonny. Jonny is actually from the village and it really made us feel like we were visiting his family and friends. He took us around the local rice fields and we helped plant the rice. Then we went to see how the local coffee was made and we had a cup and bought some spices and local coffee. We then went to see how coconut oil is made with another local family. We visited 2 waterfalls and had the chance to swim in them. Lunch at the Monkey Forest Warung is included and this was delicious. Finally we walked around the monkey forest and managed to see 2 groups of black monkeys which was an amazing way to finish the day. Kiki met us at the car with water from the cooler and drove us home. If you want to experience true Sasak life by a local we would highly recommend this tour.

We had a great private Tetebatu Walking Tour with Jonny Tour this week (June 2026). Our driver for the day, Kiki, arrived early and was excellent, safe, and incredibly personable. He kept us well-stocked with drinks and offered great flexibility with our stops. We were fortunate to have the founder, Joni, as our local guide. He provided a truly authentic look at his traditional village, showing us how locals make coffee and coconut oil. He was incredibly flexible with the itinerary, prioritizing our wish to see the black langur (ebony) monkeys before taking us to the rice fields and waterfalls. We ended up seeing about 5 different troops of 10+ monkeys each, including a few vibrant orange babies! Because we chose to spend extra time watching the monkeys, and because other travelers mentioned a nearby waterfall path was very slippery and required a river crossing, Joni easily adjusted the schedule so we could skip it without feeling rushed. Lunch was delicious, traditional food at a lovely restaurant. It was great to see they were highly accommodating of dietary restrictions, with plenty of excellent vegetarian and vegan options for both the main course and dessert. We highly recommend Jonny Tour for anyone wanting to experience authentic Lombok at a relaxed pace while stepping away from the more sterile tourist sites.

We absolutely loved this tour! It was honestly one of the highlights of our week in Lombok, and a huge part of that was thanks to our amazing driver, Kiki, and our guide, Eddy. They both went above and beyond to make the day fun, interesting and memorable, and we couldn’t have asked for better people to spend the day with. Kiki was waiting for us right on time, drove so safely all day, and made the drive so much fun. He has a fantastic sense of humour and had us laughing the whole way. He also pointed out different places along the drive and shared lots of interesting information about the area, which made the journey fly by. The complimentary Coke and bottled water were also a really thoughtful touch and much appreciated. Eddy was absolutely fantastic. His English was incredible and we chatted with him almost the entire day. He is so knowledgeable and taught us so much about the local culture, farming, plants, wildlife and the history of the area. He introduced us to so many things we never would have noticed or learnt on our own, and hearing about his family and life in the village made the experience feel even more personal and authentic. He was also so kind and patient. I was a little nervous climbing over some of the rocks near the waterfalls and he was always there with a helping hand, making sure I felt safe and comfortable. The tour itself was amazing. Walking through Tetebatu Village and the rice fields was so peaceful, the waterfalls were beautiful, and seeing the black monkeys in the forest was such a special experience. It was the perfect mix of nature, local culture and getting to experience everyday village life. Lunch at Monkey Forest Warung was also delicious! I highly recommend the mie goreng and the banana pancake—they were both so good. Kiki and Eddy honestly made this tour what it was. They are both such genuine, friendly people who clearly love what they do, and that really comes across throughout the whole day. We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this tour, and especially Kiki and Eddy, to our friends, family or anyone visiting Lombok. They both deserve so much recognition, and I really hope this review helps them because they made our day so memorable. Thank you both for such a wonderful day—we’ll remember it for a long time!

We had an amazing day! Kiki picked us up on time from our Villa and drove us to Tetebatu and back. Kiki was very kind and helpful. He taught us about the local culture. The car was very comfortable. Then we met our guide Johny who also was very lovely and taught us about the local village coffee, coconut oil and rice process. We were able to buy some locally produced coconut oil, spices and coffee which was reasonably priced and we were happy to be supporting the village. Both Kiki and Johny had very good English. We were introduced to many other lovely people in the village and ate a lot of delicious locally made fresh food. The waterfalls and the rice paddies were beautiful. All round a really special and wonderful experience. Highly recommend it!

Kiki (our driver) and Eddy (our guide) really went the extra mile to make this an incredible day. We were picked up right on time in a comfortable car with cold mineral water. Kiki stopped for us at the fruit market and was very helpful! You can choose lunch from a large selection on the menu and my Jackfruit curry was delicious. It is quite a distance to walk doing this tour, but the majority of the terrain was easy to walk and (even as an older couple) we did not have any trouble. Tips: Wear comfortable walking shoes and take sunscreen with you. Take your costume with you, there is a place to change before you go to the waterfall. Take (or wear) shoes with which you can walk in the water. It’s a lot of fun to walk up to the waterfall but will be uncomfortable if you have to do it barefoot. A BIG thanks to Jonny Company and especially to Kiki & Eddy 🥰

Adi and Kiki were both incredible! Kiki took us to Tetebatu and gave us history lessons on the way there and Adi was a great tour guide that explained the process of making rice and how to make coconut oil. It was a great tour to walk around the villages and see the locals with their day to day lives. The waterfalls were also really good and refreshing! Thank you so much to the team for a great experience!!
